[A sex tape in Iran has led to the suspension of an official in charge of promoting Islamic values - and prompted authorities to deny any prior knowledge of his alleged behaviour.

[A video posted online allegedly shows the head of culture and Islamic guidance in Gilan province, Reza Tsaghati, having sex with another man.

The video - which has been widely shared on social media - has caused furore online. Mr Tsaghati is the founder of a cultural centre focused on piety and the hijab.

On Saturday, Iran's culture minister Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili said no negative reports relating to Mr Tsaghati had existed prior to the video's publication.

Some have said the removal of Mr Tsaghati from his post highlighted the difference in how Iranian officials are treated when accused of a crime compared to the LGBT+ community, or women who do not adhere to Islamic rules.

Under Iranian law, which is based on Sharia, same-sex relations are viewed as crimes that carry a maximum penalty of death. This severe punishment has seldom been used, but the LGBT+ community face daily discrimination.

Women have also been severely punished in Iran for not wearing the hijab. Nationwide protests against its mandatory wearing erupted in September, sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. She died three days after she was detained by Iran's morality police for allegedly violating rules requiring women to cover their hair.]

[Former Iranian prisoners of conscience have told the BBC that they were filmed during strip searches in prisons.

They also said some detainees were forced to remove their sanitary pad or tampon during their period and squat or squat jump.

"They do this to humiliate us," Mozhgan Keshavarz, who spent nearly three years behind bars, mostly in notorious Evin and Qarchak prison in Tehran province, told the BBC.

She said she experienced three strip searches in front of security cameras during her incarceration, which ended in January 2022.

The third time, a female prison guard took photographs of her naked, she said. When Ms Keshavarz protested, she was told it was necessary to counter future claims of torture.

"Who would see these videos and pictures? Would the regime use them later to silence us?" she asked, referring to the risk of being blackmailed even when her sentence was over.

Ms Keshavarz is a women's rights activist who has protested against the mandatory hijab, or headscarf.]

Le désert du Thar dans le nord-ouest de l'Inde : dès l'aube, Ramnivas Budhnagar accomplit un rituel, en allant déposer de l'eau et de la nourriture pour les animaux sauvages. Son fils Mahaver l'accompagne, car un jour, c'est lui qui prendra la relève. La famille de Ramnisvas appartient à la communauté des Bishnoï. Le terme Bishnoï, de " bish ", vingt et " noï ", neuf, soit " 29 ", est dérivé des 29 préceptes édictés par Lord Jambeshvar il y a un demi-millénaire. A l'époque, des conflits entre hindous et musulmans secouaient le pays, qui menaçait aussi de se disloquer à cause des rivalités intercastes. Jambeshvar était convaincu que la seule issue possible, était de parvenir à un respect absolu de la vie sous toutes ses formes. Il avait donc édicté 29 règles qui portent tout autant sur l'hygiène quotidienne que sur le langage, le mode d'alimentation, la compassion et le pardon. Elles vont de " Ne tue jamais un animal ", " Protège les animaux sauvages, car eux aussi jouent un rôle dans l'équilibre de la nature " à " Ne mens pas " et " N'abats pas les arbres ". Depuis 500 ans, les Bishnoïs sont respectueux de la nature ; ce sont donc les premiers défenseurs de l'environnement en quelque sorte. Aujourd'hui encore, ils essaient de rester fidèles à leurs idéaux, en dépit de la mondialisation qui laisse peu de place à l'individu et aux modes de vie immuables. Les jeunes Bishnoï émigrent dans les villes. Les autres, ceux qui restent, continuent de se battre pour les droits des animaux ; ils soignent des gazelles blessées, en les mettant à l'abri dans leurs temples. Pourtant, ils ont discerné les signes des temps, à l'instar de Ramnisvas. Ce dernier se sert depuis longtemps de moyens de communication modernes comme le téléphone portable, et il organise des manifestations relayées le lendemain dans les journaux. Mais cela suffira-t-il à porter haut le combat des Bishnoï et à assurer leur survie ?

Le petit village de Javele Baleshawar, situé à 150 kilomètres au nord de Bombay, manque d'eau pendant de longs mois. Au moment de la mousson, les terres asséchées ne peuvent absorber les pluies diluviennes qui ravagent les champs et s'écoulent rapidement, laissant place à une nouvelle sécheresse. Construire des digues, des canaux et des citernes préserverait le village tout en assurant son approvisionnement en eau toute l'année. Pendant de longs mois, Peter Weinert a accompagné la réalisation de ce projet, qui exige des fonds, une bonne dose de persuasion et beaucoup d'huile de coude car les travaux de terrassement se font à la main.

Dans les années 20, l'archéologue anglais John Marshall découvre le long du fleuve Indus, dans l'actuel Pakistan, les vestiges de villes datant de la civilisation de l'Indus, entre 5000 et 1900 avant J.-C., une civilisation qui reste à ce jour encore méconnue. Son aire géographique était importante : plus d'un millier de sites ont été découverts. Des maisons de brique séchée sont mises au jour, des salles de bains, des puits. Qui étaient ces habitants et quels étaient leurs moyens de subsistance ? Le 16 décembre, il fait nuit. Jyoti Singh, une étudiante en médecine de 23 ans et un de ses amis rentrent du cinéma dans le sud de Delhi. En montant à bord du bus qui s’arrête à leur hauteur, ils ne savent pas encore qu’ils vont mettre un pied en enfer.
La suite a fait la une des journaux du monde entier. Un mois après ce viol terrible, la société indienne est toujours sous le choc. Surtout, elle découvre une réalité qui était jusque-là cachée, ignorée : les femmes indiennes sont victimes, depuis des siècles, d’une incroyable violence. Une violence quotidienne, physique ou psychologique. L’Inde est le pays des avortements sélectifs, le pays où on pousse un fils, mais pas une fille à faire des études, un pays où les femmes sont encore considérées par beaucoup d’hommes comme des objets, un pays où le viol reste encore beaucoup trop souvent impuni…
Pourtant, ce fait divers du 16 décembre a déclenché une prise de conscience à l’échelle du pays. Aujourd’hui un mouvement citoyen est en marche, le début de ce que l’Inde espère être la « Révolution des femmes »…
